Streetwear, sneakers and Staple. It’s the perfect trifecta for young urban dwellers hustling their way through life, fashion, music, sports or the arts. A world-renowned brand that reflects the gritty and never-ending energy of New Yorkers (and others like them), Staple Pigeon is a fusion of collaborations and creative designsthat cuts across its colorful and funky tees, hoodies, sweatshirts, hats, bottoms and accessories.
The company got its unlikely start in 1997 when founder Jeff Staple walked into a boutique store in New York City wearing a shirt he printed in his silkscreen class at Parsons School of Design. He walked out of that store with an order for 12 shirts, and with that, Staple was officially open for business. The pigeon logo is inspired by the bird’s reputation as the unofficial mascot of NYC, and is a representation of the city Jeff grew up in.
Hype around the brand reached an all-time high in 2005 when Nike asked Jeff to create a special commemorative sneaker that would represent New York. The iconic and coveted Nike Staple Pigeon Dunk SB was introduced and led to much fanfare (and chaos) from fans eager to snatch up a pair.
Streetwear and sneaker culture may have hit the mainstream—but its cool, comfy and edgy history will always make it a classic. Flock on now to Staple Pigeon to find out why.
