REEF FOUNDER’S STORY

In 1984, two entrepreneurial brothers from South America named Fernando and Santiago Aguerre founded REEF out of a love for the beach and surfing. Their idea was to create high-quality, super comfortable products that fit the lifestyle they loved.

Fernando and Santi walked everywhere, so they created sandals that could take them to the beach, into town and wherever they wanted to go – in comfort.

The brothers redefined, redesigned and reengineered every component of the sandal. That attention to detail and an uncompromising standard of quality made Reef the most comfortable sandals anybody had ever worn.

The innovations that started in 1984 have evolved into the Reef sandals we love today, becoming a symbol of a free, comfortable and happy lifestyle.

SUSTAINABLE STYLES USE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Sustainability has been part of the REEF DNA since the beginning. REEF founders, Santiago and Fernando Aguerre are surfers and beach lovers, and they did their best to create products with the least impact as possible. Today, over 37 years later, we continue these ideologies with even more emphasis because they are just as relevant now as they were then.

In 2007, REEF’s mission was to incorporate renewable, recycled and/or organic materials whenever possible. This was also the time that REEF planted our flag to become 100% PVC Free, something that we can still claim to this day.

RECYCLED

100% recycled polyester derived from post-consumer plastic bottles and certified by the global recycling standard.

ECO FOAMS

RESPONSIBLY SOURCED LEATHERS

100% of our leathers and suedes are from tanneries with gold or silver ratings with a majority being ISA lite (low impact to the environment) leathers.

NATURAL MATERIALS

100% cotton, 100% natural jute, genuine cork materials, new 100% wood logo and a unique material mix of PU and natural paper.
